Two reports, and a lot of papers to finish, I spent my four-day weekend devoting the half of it to school work, and the other half, pure leisure. I wasn't able to watch Jay, so (in replacement to my list), I enjoyed an animated movie marathon instead! Lol.

Kung Fu Panda [Blu-ray]

 Kung Fu Panda was a blast. I loved it. It was really funny, and Jack Black's voice was perfect for Po's character. It's just sad that I wasn't able to catch this on the big screen. It's all about following your dreams and believing in yourself, no matter how impossible your dream is. It's still better than just going through your life without even trying to achieve it. :)

Wall-E [2008]

Wall E was a major tearjerker. The movie was just beginning and I was already in tears. It was really inspiring how someone so helpless, with the power of love and friendship, could turn into a hero in the end. 

Spirited Away [2003]

Spirited Away, another story of love and friendship, was also a tearjerker. In a desperate situation of returning her parents back into humans, after turning into pigs, QiaoXun's (correct me if my copy's subtitle's wrong, teehee) only hope was her new found friend Bai Long. The story had interesting twists (QiaoXun ended up saving Bai Long in the end). The animation was also superb, a lot of talent and art went into the making of this film.

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride [2005]

Corpse Bride. I wasn't able to get a copy of the Nightmare Before Christmas, so I ended up getting a copy of another Tim Burton film, Corpse Bride. Victor was about to be married to Victoria but he couldn't say his vows right, so after the wedding rehearsal he practiced reciting them in the woods. He finally got them right and even practiced putting the ring on a finger-shaped twig. Unfortunately, it was a real finger of a dead bride. Emily took him "downstairs" and Victor's predicament began.   

I was also intending to watch Ratatouille,and Yobi (Five-Tailed Fox), a Korean animation but unfortunately, I still have a lot of school work to make, so maybe next weekend?? Teehee. I love long weekends. o_0

Jeesh!  I've been waiting for two years for this guy?!  But I wait because just to see his smile is worth it.  He's currently shooting a movie, Mother,  for an early next year release.  I guess this wait is just to prepare for the long wait for Shinhwa.  If I can wait for Kim Do Jin, then I can wait for Shinhwa.  Besides, I can look at Binnie until then. 

I wonder if one of the Korean markets would sell the GQ magazines with him on it?!  *Dreams*

I went to go see this movie with my dad on Sunday. It was called Sword of the Stranger in English.

We got there a little early and the theater was completely empty, which was a shame because it was really a beautiful little space. If you get the chance, you should go down there and support it.

The movie itself was pretty good. A little too bloody for my taste though. What was interesting (for me, and for probably a lot of foreigners who watch this film), was that the two main characters (the hero and his nemisis) were strangers -- they were outsiders, foreigners. In a country like Japan it doesn't take much to be an "outsider." A slight physical difference or a drop of mixed blood makes you a "stranger."

The nemisis was from China, but obviously from European stock because he was tall, big, with blond hair and blue eyes (he also had a very distracting mullet). The hero had reddish hair and slightly western features, which made me think of my part Ainu friend, who's father has reddish hair and western features. I mean seriously, the guy looks latin. These two main characters were both much stronger and more skilled than everyone else, which was cool. In my experience Japanese people don't appreciate foreigners being more skilled in their cultural techniques, like swordplay! I mean there's a reason why they stopped recruiting polynesian sumo wrestlers. I wouldn't be surprised if they do the same thing to Mongolians.

And I was sort of left scratching my head because I couldn't figure out why THIS film -- out of all the anime films that come out of Japan -- was chosen to be shown in America. As far as I know, it didn't make any particular waves in Japan. Then again I'm definitely no expert, so I might be wrong. It was good though, if you can stand all that blood and violence. I have a particular, almost irrational dislike of blood though, so you'll probably be fine.

I actually watched this movie earlier this summer, but I figured I should write about it here =]

Firstly, if you haven't seen the movie yet and are planning to see it, I would suggest reading the fanfic/novel before watching. I made a last minute decision to read the fanfiction before watching the movie and i'm so glad I did, otherwise I don't think I would have understood the whole movie. It is kinda jumpy and confusing if you don't know what's going on. There were many things missing (as there usually are with novels turned into movies -_-;). I also think that the fanfiction was better than the movie... it actually made me cry a little T__T
The fanfiction is Do Re Mi Fa So La S(T)i Do by Guiyeoni.
Guiyeoni is also the author of He Was Cool and Temptation of Wolves, which were both turned into movies as well.

Doremi is about a girl named JungWon.
One day while working at the amusement park, where she is dressed in a dragon suit, she is taunted by a group of teenagers. One of the teens, EunGyu, takes it a too far for Jungwon, and in her anger she pours soda all over him.
Shortly after this incident, Jungwon is surprised to find that the new next door neighbors is Eungyu's family! Eungyu doesn't know that Jungwon is really the evil dragon that he dislikes though xp
Jungwon sometimes sneaks out to hang out or do part-time work with her friends. One night, Eungyu sees her and threatens to tell on her. To keep his mouth shut, Jungwon agrees to carry Eungyu's guitar for one week. Eungyu is in a band called Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do.
During that week, Jungwon and Eungyu start developing feelings for each other and soon become a couple.
One day when Jungwon visits the band's practice room, she comes face to face with a blast from the past; her ex-best friend HeeWon! Jungwon and Heewon were very close friends in childhood, but a serious dilemma caused them to become estranged. She immediately runs out of the room crying her eyes out. She is surprised to find out that her estranged friend is actually now best friends with her boyfriend, and in the same band.
So, after some fighting, Heewon realizes that he doesn't really hate Jungwon, but actually loves her and wants her back. What's a girl to do when she's torn between her formerly estranged bff and newly found love?
In the fanfic, there are also some side stories:
Jungwon's little brother, JaeGwang has fallen in love with the noona, SoHyun, next door. Will Sohyun noona see Jaegwang as a man or just a nice dongsaeng? This is not really a side story.. it's actually like sub-plot. It is touched on a little bit in the movie.
Pupu the street cat, who was taken in by Jaegwang, sees things that no one else does. And has a great love for dear Jungwon. Pupu is such a cute cat xD reading his POV was soo hilarious! and also sad at some parts =[
Kkanda, the loyal best friend of Jaegwang. This side story is about how he became Jaegwang's friend. It also the story through his eyes.
Dummy Eungyu - this side story is also in the movie. I won't write about it because it gives away a big big big part xp

Now let's talk about the best part of the movie! (for me at least xD)

I really liked watching him in Hwang JinYi and so I was quite excited to see he was Eungyu in the movie ^_^

OH AND.. he initially caught my eye because he reminded me so much of Keita Tachibana from jpop group w-inds. @_@

There's nothing like a movie-marathon to remove (or reduce) stress, don't you think? Korean Movies (here in the Philippines) are a big hit right now, that's why I'll probably watch the Hollywood version of My Sassy Girl when it hits the theaters.

Anyway, if you also love Asian (preferably Korean) movies, like me, and already tired of watching "The Sassy Girl" or "My Little Bride" for the nth time, then check out my top 5 favorite Korean movies of all time:

Innocent Steps (Standard Edition) DVD

If you loved "My Little Bride", you'll also love this. It almost had the same plot - young bride, older guy, fell in love - but with a musical twist! It also stars Moon Geum-Young, (most of us in the Philippines remember her as the young "Jenny" in the Korean drama, Autumn in my Heart).

When her sister backed-out of a marriage she didn't want, Chae-Ryn went to Seoul to impersonate her sister and save her. The said 'groom' however, only agreed to get married in search of a new dance partner.

He was shocked at first to see a really young 'bride-to-be', but eventually, he agreed to the terms. Chae-Ryn didn't know how to dance, so he trained her first ( a lot of cheesy moments here, teehee). Eventually, he fell in love, and they lived happily ever after. I'm a lame story-teller, sorry.

The King and the Clown (aka: The Royal Jester)

ART FLICK! Yup, very nicely made. The scenes - breathtaking, the actors - i didn't notice they were acting, the plot - weird, and interesting.

I think it's true-to-life, although, I'm just not sure. The king had very serious mental problems, he's really weird. All of his officials don't respect him for that fact. He actually was traumatized when his mother was killed in front of him while he was still a kid. Then these group of entertainers came, and he loved them! Everynight, he would call the gay court clown to visit him in his room, and they would play puppets (or just about anything) the whole night!

The story gets more interesting when the king's concubine got really jealous, the corruption of the king's court got exposed, and the palace being attacked by its people.

3. The Classic

Love tearjerking-happy-ending movies?

This may be entitled "The Classic", but it's definitely not one of those traditional love stories you've ever seen. Ji-Hae discovers a box of memories that belongs to her mother. The whole movie actually focused on two love stories - Ji-Hae's and her mother's. War, strict parents, third guy, Ji-Hae's mom had an unsucessful love-life. They gave way to all the forces against them and went with the bitter flow of their fates.

At the present, Ji-Hae, and her mother's ex-boyfriend's son, continues, and finishes the love that their parents didn't finish. I love the story because it is very poetic, and it gives you the "once-upon-a-time" experience.

As you may have noticed, i love movies with really weird plots. The ones that make you go "wait, what happened again?! *pushes the rewind button*", and you're still left mouth-opened and stunned.

Tae-Suk (a really weird person, haha!) posts flyers on people's gates, and returns at night, breaks-in to the houses that didn't remove their flyers, thinking that they must be empty. He enters, takes pictures of him (as souvenirs), washes the unwashed clothes of the residents and even fix their furnitures! Weird, eh? He stays there for as long as the home owners are away. One day, he broke-in a big house and met the battered-housewife, Sun-Wha. She runs away with him, and they fell in love in a really strange way. They got caught eventually and Tae-Suk went to jail, but he manages to escape by "being invisible". It's up to you to discover how he did! The  story ends with Tae-Suk living in Sun-Wha's house, with Sun-Wha's husband not even knowing he's there!

Moment to Remember (aka: The Eraser in My Head)

I still cry my heart out, even if I already saw this movie a hundred times. That's a really tough job for film-makers, don't you think? To keep you crying, over-and-over again.

Su Jin fell in love with the (super hot!) really cranky architect, Chul Soo. They got married and were very happy. Their happiness was almost perfect, unbelievable even, when Su Jin starts getting sick of Alzheimers. At one point, Chul Soo filled up their house with post-its and posters, "This way to the bathroom", "How to tell time", and others of that sort. It gets really heartbreaking when Su jin forgets his name, and starts calling him with another guy's name.

This is my favorite movie of all time, so I won't spoil its ending, It's already up to you to find out. Teehee.
